Obesity Related Heart Disease and Its Treatment with Metabolic Surgery
Obesity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and contributes directly to mortality from MACE and leads to the development of cardiovascular disease independently of other cardiovascular risk factors such as dyslipidemia, diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea.
Weight loss through lifestyle interventions and treatment with anti-obesity medications may improve the risk profile of patients with cardiovascular disease and obesity. Nonetheless, surgical weight loss with bariatric surgery lowers the incidence of cardiovascular risk factors and significantly lowers the incidence of MACE in patients with cardiovascular disease and obesity.
