The carotid body tumor/paraganglioma is a rare neoplasm. These neuroendocrine tumors derived from the neural crest are within the adventitia closely associated with carotid artery bifurcation. Interest in this tumor arises from the controversy regarding the need for intervention, as they are often asymptomatic, non-biologically active and slow growing. Likewise, approach used in treatment often varies. Assessment of these tumors, with the current advances in the various imaging modalities, has significantly facilitated surgical planning and avoidance of complications. The aim of this video is to demonstrate the surgical removal of a right carotid body tumor.
