Adjunctive techniques such as balloon dilation and atherectomy may be used to facilitate the management for the peripheral vascular patient, and to improve the results of standard surgical revascularization. Recanalization may be achieved with reduced operative time and morbidity. In addition, the postoperative course may be shortened, leading to a decrease in total hospital costs.
