The Scott multidirectional retractor has been used for application to retropubic prostatic surgery in 46 patients resulting in significant reduction of blood loss. Complications of TURP are thought to be higher than previously recognized. Hemostatic retropubic prostatectomy is a viable option because of low morbidity and minimal need for transfusion.
