Cardiac rupture following blunt trauma is a rare event, and carries a high mortality rate. A high index of suspicion, rapid diagnosis and emergent intervention are necessary for a good outcome. This case report describes the evaluation and management of a patient who sustained severe multi-trauma including blunt cardiac rupture following a high-speed motorcycle accident, as well as reviews the broad category of pathology that falls under the term "blunt cardiac injury."
