Abdominal compartment syndrome is being increasingly recognized as a cause of significant morbidity and mortality. A high index of suspicion, liberal use of intravesicular pressure measurements, and early institution of decompressive laparotomy is essential. Diagnosis, resuscitation, and use of decompressive laparotomy in patients with abdominal compartment syndrome are discussed.
