Blunt traumatic retroperitoneal hematoma is important to the surgeon because it is common, it taxes the management skills of even experienced clinicians, and stresses institutional resources. We collected a series of 233 cases at the Baltimore Shock Trauma Center and discuss their presentation, associated injuries, and a diagnostic and therapeutic plan.
