Diagnosis of injury following blunt abdominal trauma continues to represent a vexing problem as attempts are made to avoid nontherapeutic celiotomies. An attractive alternative to either diagnostic peritoneal lavage or CT scanning would be use of the laparoscope to identify and grade intra-abdominal injuries under direct vision. This tape presents our initial experience with laparoscopy as a diagnostic modality for abdominal injury.
