There is a group of chest-injured patients where the extent of the injury or the need for operative intervention is not immediately apparent. Accurate diagnosis and surgical correction may be delayed for a considerable time. Included among these injuries are: ruptured bronchus; avulsion of major aortic branches; A-V fistulas; ruptured heart valve; diaphragmatic hernia; and fibrothorax. Examples of these injuries will be presented.
