Inguinal hernia repair is one of the most common operations performed in children. Historically, repairs were done open via an inguinal crease incision and extraperitoneal repair with high ligation of the hernia sac. However, many pediatric surgeons are now using a laparoscopic approach for inguinal hernia repair. We previously published our institution's technique of laparoscopic repair using the zygomatic arch awl, a surgical instrument commonly used in maxillofacial surgery. In our video, we present the case of an 18 month old male with a right inguinal hernia undergoing repair using this instrument, and show that it is a safe and feasible technique for laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair in children.
