The resection of the head of the pancreas, with duodenal and common duct preservation is demonstrated. The patient is a 34 year old woman with a familial pancreatitis, who had undergone a previous Puestow operation fro abdominal pain. Her pain was relieved for about 18 months, and then recurred, and evidence of terminal common duct obstruction was managed with sphincteroplasty, relieving the common duct obstruction but not her pain. Because of persistent pain, it was elected to preform a resection of the head of the pancreas in an attempt to releive her symptoms. This video demonstrates the preservation of the previous Puestow operation, and resection of the pancreatic head, preserving sufficient blood supply to allow for a functional duodenum.
