Laparoscopic Puestow Procedure for Chronic Pancreatitis

Introduction: The patient is a 31 year old male with ETOH induced severe chronic pancreatitis and a recurrent stricture at the junction of body and tail of the pancreas and dilatation of the pancreatic duct to 10 mm. Multiple endoscopic stent placements provided only temporary relief of his pain and weight loss. Comorbidities include GERD and HTN. The patient has quit drinking for the last 2 years.

Methods: The patient underwent a laparoscopic exploration and lateral pancreaticojejunostomy with Roux-en-Y reconstruction February 2006.

Results: The patient has had no operative complications and his postoperative course was unremarkable. He was discharged home on postoperative day 6 and has been off narcotic pain medications for two years since his operation.

Conclusion: This case illustrates a laparoscopic pancreatico-jejunostomy performed for chronic pancreatitis.
