Minimally invasive surgery for solid organs has lagged behind the treatment for hollow viscus. Limitations include access, control of hemorrhage, and the ability to palpate to identify pathology, but these problems can be overcome. In the pancreas there are a number of conditions that are amenable to minimally invasive surgery, as summarized in this video: Laparoscopic cystgastrostomy (pancreatic pseudocysts); Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y cystjejunostomy (pancreatic pseudocysts); Laparoscopic enucleation of an islet cell tumor; Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy.
