The translabyrinthine approach is a versatile means to safely resect tumors of the cerebellopontine angle. Advantages include enhanced preservation of the facial nerve, resection of large masses with anterior extension, and minimal brain retraction. This approach is of greatest value for lesions which have already adversely destroyed auditory function.
