Restoration of FORM and FUNCTION following shotgun blasts to the face is one of the most formidable challenges confronting the reconstructive surgeon. With the advent of microvascular free tissue transfer, the one-stage reconstruction of the lower face is now technically feasible. This video will demonstrate the one-stage reconstruction of the lower face. Composite restoration of the anterior mandible, floor of mouth, and chin soft tissue was combined with a modified Webster reconstruction of an 85% lower lip defect. Discussed will be: 1) indications and advantages for one-stage lower face reconstruction; 2) flap planning and design; 3) demonstration of technique; and, 4) clinical application.
