Carotid body tumors are a rare form of paraganglioma. Usually benign, the tumor arises in the crotch of the carotid bifurcation, producing the characteristic saddle deformity on selective carotid angiogram. This program demonstrates a technique for excision of a carotid body tumor. Exposure of the carotid bifurcation with identification of important anatomic structures is initially presented. Following this, dissection of the tumor is carried out in a subadventitial plane, culminating in complete excision of the tumor from the carotid bifurcation.
