In 1978, we developed a microsurgical posterior fossa vestibular neurectomy through a mastoid approach - the retrolabyrinthine vestibular neurectomy. The results of 115 cases have been complete cure of vertigo in 84% and substantial cure in 9%. Hearing has been preserved in 20 dB preop levels in 75%. There have been no serious complications.
