This didactic presentation of a standard radical neck dissection discusses the various surgical approaches that can be utilized in performing this operation. The actual surgical procedure is demonstrated on a fresh cadaver specimen and is narrated. The use of a fresh cadaver is particularly useful in demonstrating the intricate anatomy of the neck and showing important structures that are preserved during neck dissection. This is better delineated using this format than is possible using actual recordings of live patients. A brief discussion of the indications for a neck dissection are included, as well as postoperative care.
