Minamally invasive treatment of complex type IV hiatal hernias are challenging procedures. The use of the robotic surgical platform allows several advantages when compared to the conventional laparoscopic approach. Stable retraction of structures, stable camera positioning, better ergonomics, thrre-dimentional view are some of these advantages. However, the seven degrees of motion of the robotic surgey system is probably the most important, allowing precise and effective mesh fixation. We present a robotic assisted repair of a type IV paraesophageal hernia.
