The severity and extent of burn injury determines treatment setting, resuscitation needs, and type of burn wound care. Biopsy monitoring of the burn wound guides the use of topical antimicrobial therapy and biologic dressings. The indications for, advantages, limitations and technique of various forms of burn wound excision and closure are presented.
