This is a 24 year old male who is donating a kidney to his father for renal transplantation. The patient is in left lateral position. Incision is anterior to the 10th rib and lateral to the rectus abdominis. The peritoneum is reflected medially. The ureter is dissected and the larger vessels are clipped and divided. The kidney is mobilized inside Gerota's fascia. The gonadal and adrenal veins are divided. The adrenal gland is dissected free from the kidney. The ureter is clipped with two Hemolock clips and divided proximally. The renal artery is also clipped with 2 Hemolock clips. The renal vein is stapled with a TXV30 Linear Vascular Stapler. The kidney is flushed immediately on the back table. The muscles are reapproximated using an inner layer of #1 PDS and 2 outer layers of #1 Prolene. Marcaine is used for a field block around the incision. Subcutaneous tissues are closed with interrupted 3-0 Vicryl and skin with subcuticular 4-0 Monocryl. Steristrips are applied. Most Patients are discharged from the hospital the next day. As this is a retroperiteral procedure, they start an oral diet immediately. There is no risk of injury to the intraperitoneal organs.
