With the rising popularity & acceptance of gastric bypass for morbid obesity, there have been several techniques described to perform the proximal anastamosis. We present our experience with a completely stapled GIA proximal anastamosis. In 123 consecutive cases, there was one one gastric leak (0.8%) and one anastamotic bleed (0.8%), no strictures, and patients lost weight. We feel that this is a safe, rapid technique which utilizes the convenience of existing trocars and removes the need and potential trauma associated with inserting EEA devices and anvils.
