Laparoscopic management of achalasia is safe and effective. We illustrate the technique of esophageal myotomy using ultrasonic coagulation. Esophageal endoscopy guides the extent of myotomy. Partial posterior fundoplication effectively prevents reflux postoperatively. Initial results have shown length of hospitalization, early recuperation, and excellent patient satisfaction.
