Ninety-eight percent of our patients (n=43) undergoing myotomy without added fundoplication for achalasia have good to excellent outcomes. Ninety-three percent of patients studied reported improvement in reflux symptoms. Only one of 14 patients (7%) studied had pathologic reflux on postop 24-hr pH testing. Myotomy without fundoplication is safe and effective.
