Today total and subtotal esophagectomy with a cervical anastomosis may be performed with a three-hole (left cervicotomy, right thoracotomy an laparotomy) or a two-hole procedure (left cervicotomy and laparotomy). The authors propose a modification of the Nanson technique which enables, by rotating the operating table, to perform in sequence or contemporarily with one or two surgical teams, the left cervicotomy, the laparotomy, and the eventual right thoracotomy. The technique here illustrated was used in 67 patients obtained good control of the operative field for each stage of the procedure with coordinated operating to two surgical teams.
