Laparoscopic management of the severely inflamed colon is a challenging procedure. We present two cases of elective laparoscopic resection: an inflammatory pelvic mass due to Crohn's disease and a sigmoid phlegmon caused by recurrent diverticulitis. In the first case, the inflamed terminal ileum is laparoscopically resected and the ileo-ascending anastomosis is extracorporeally fashioned. In the latter case, the sigmoid phlegmon is mobilized and a laparoscopic resection and anastomosis are intracorporeally performed. Laparoscopic management of inflammatory disorders of the bowel are feasible and may be advantageous.
