Combined resection of the esophagus and aorta was carried out on a 57 year old male for advanced cancer of the esophagus invading the thoracic aorta. His postoperative course was uneventful. Although there was no sign of distant tumor spread at the time of operation, the patient survived for only 8 months. The operation was only for palliation to prevent possible massive bleeding.
