This videotape demonstrates the technique of open placement of a single-cuffed coiled tip Tenckhoff peritoneal dialysis catheter done under local anesthesia with sedation. Our five-year experience has eliminated many of the minor technical problems of this technique. We have found it superior to the more widely used technique of percutaneous placement in terms of exit site leak and infection, catheter malposition, and late hernia development.
