During the past few years, there has been increasing interest in reconstructive procedures for patients requiring surgery for ulcerative colitis. This video demonstrates our technique of creating a J-shaped reservoir anastomosed to the dentate margin following a colectomy and mucosal proctectomy in a remaining rectal stump of approximately 3 cm. The functional results are viewed and suggestions given regarding indications for the procedure.
