Minimally Invasive Parathyroidectomy (MIP) employs image-directed parathyroid exploration, employing small incisions in awake patients under local or regional anesthesia. It can be performed on an outpatient basis, and is likely to replace conventional exploration for the majority of patients with primary hyperparathyroidism.
