Adrenalectomy, performed via a posterior or transabdominal approach, results in painful postoperative syndromes. Recently, laparoscopic surgery was applied for the removal of solid organs with success. Laparoscopic adrenalectomies were performed on 12 patients and studied from May - December 1992. Complete laparoscopic removal was successful in 93% of cases. We believe this technique is adequate for the surgical ablation of adrenal tissue. It produces less postoperative pain with rapid recovery. This video describes a bilateral adrenalectomy for Cushing's disease.
