Trans-anal ultrasonography provides precise anatomical information of the anal sphincters and rectal wall involvement in disease processes. It is ideal for use by the surgeon at the patient's first visit. We demonstrate normal anal and rectal anatomy, and show typical findings in postpartum sphincter injury, and Duke's A, B and C rectal cancer.
