Rectal prolapse is most often treated by an abdominal repair. A perineal rectosigmoidectomy may be a better option in the elderly or poor risk patient. This procedure is unfamiliar to most surgeons and is difficult to conceptualize. Perineal rectosigmoidectomy is an effective prolapse repair. It requires less extensive anesthesia and postoperative difficulties are few.
