Internal prolapse causing obstructed defecation, bleeding and proctalgia, often occurs in patients of advancing years and decreasing reserves. A modification of DeLorme's technique, facilitated by lessons from rectal mucosectomy, has been used in patients up to age 85 with no mortality, minimal morbidity and excellent results. The procedure is applicable both to internal and external prolapse.
