Esophageal submucosal tumors (SMTs) are usually benign, therefore, indications for the surgery are the presence of symptoms and/or the need for histopathologic confirmation. The surgical procedure for these tumors is changed by the localization and size of the tumor. In this report, we introduced 4 minimally invasive procedures according to the localization and size of esophageal SMTs. When the tumor is located at the upper or middle thoracic esophagus, thoracoscopic enucleation is accepted as the treatment of choice. When the tumor is located at the lower thoracic esophagus, laparoscopic lower esophagectomy and reconstruction with esophago-gastrostomy or jejunum interposition is accepted as the treatment of choice. When the tumor is located at esophago-gastric junction, laparoscopy and endoscopy cooperative surgery is indicated. Surgical treatment of esophageal SMTs must be changed according to localization and size of timors, but all cases seem to be resectable using endoscopic surgery.
