Computed tomography of the chest in a 66 year old male patient showed a posterior mediastinal tumor 7 cm maximum diameter adjacent to the esophagus. Although repeated transbronchial lung biopsy failed, the patient was successfully diagnosed as having small cell lung cancer through the use of endoscopic ultrasound-guide needle biopsy, an new diagnostic procedure.
