A prototype of video mediastinoscope was developed allowing direct transmission on a video monitor while performing the operation in the usual manner. This greatly facilitates the teaching of the procedure and interpretation of lymph node staging especially in lung cancer as shown in this patient with small cell lung carcinoma.
