Congenital pericardial defects are rare. Surgical treatment is recommended to relieve symptoms and to prevent strangulation. The case of symptomatic pericardial defect diagnosed by left heart catheterization is described. Treatment was by video-assisted thoracoscopic pericardiectomy. This is the first such case report of thoracoscopic pericardiectomy for symptomatic congenital pericardial defect.
