The automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator (AICD) is an accepted treatment for the management of certain ventricular arrhythmias. Implantation of the AICD is demonstrated in this video using a video-linked thoracoscopic system. This technique has been used in patients who have not had previous cardiac surgery. This method reduces the postoperative pain associated with thoracotomy and promotes more rapid recovery.
