After completing this study guide and viewing the accompanying video, the perioperative registered nurse and other perioperative team members will have increased their knowledge of controls and practices for optimizing safety when handling sharp objects and devices. Team members can use this knowledge to reduce the risk for percutaneous injuries and transmission of infectious pathogens.

• Use devices that incorporate engineering controls to reduce the risk of injury in the perioperative setting
