This is a 37 year-old male who presented to clinic for evaluation of shortness of breath of unknown origin. He had a history of a stab wound in his left chest ten years prior to his presentation. His medical history was significant only for asthma. A CT scan was obtained that demonstrated a left-sided diaphragmatic hernia that contained transverse colon. He was scheduled for an elective laparoscopic diaphragmatic hernia repair. The procedure was successfully completed laparoscopically and the diaphragmatic hernia defect was closed primarily with a running, non-absorbable barbed suture. A post-operative chest X-ray was obtained in the recovery room and he was discharged home from the recovery room. An additional chest X-ray was obtained on post-operative day one demonstrating full re-expansion of the lung.
