Several patients with hyperparathyroidism underwent parathyroidectomy. Using an FDA-approved NIR camera commonly used for visualizing indocyanine green, we were able to distinguish parathyroid tissue from other tissues real-time. It aided in the identification of parathyroid tissue - both normal and adenomas. This obviated the need for frozen section in all cases.
