This is a video designed to educate the surgeon on techniques that can be used preoperatively to optimize ostomy site marking. This can reduce postoperative ostomy related complications and improve quality of life. We introduce a novel pneumonic to help the surgeon remember the key points to preoperative optimal ostomy site marking. This pneumonic is FAIR - Flat Surface, Away from the Incision, In the Line of Sight, and Rectus Abdominus. By using these key points, the incidence of common postoperative complications can be reduced.
