The purpose of this video and accompanying study guide is to educate perioperative RNs and other health care personnel about current patient safety issues and potential risks to surgical patients and health care personnel, as well as a legal view point as it relates to perioperative RNs and the care of their patients.

Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

• Describe current patient safety issues as they relate to perioperative care
• Identify the top ten patient safety concerns identified by perioperative RNs for patients undergoing surgery or other operative procedures
• Discuss legal issues as related to patient care in the perioperative setting
