Total vascular exclusion is a technique of liver resection in which all of the vascular inflow and outflow to the liver are controlled. This technique allows transection of the parenchyma in a virtually blood-less field. The technique is particularly applicable to large lesions, central lesions, and those adjacent to large vascular structures. This technique is also tolerated in patients 65 years of age and older.
