CD 1 Medical Management of Morbid Obesity
Target Audience: Primary Care Physicians
Educational Objectives
- Understand what body mass index (BMI) represents and apply the classification scheme
- Recognize weight-related comorbid conditions, and appropriately assess (or refer for assessment), for these conditions
- Match patients with appropriate dietary and pharmacologic treatments, based on BMI and comorbidities
- Monitor efficacy and safety in patients who are taking weight loss drugs
- Counsel patients on the potential benefits and risks of a range of dietary approaches to weight control

Target Audience: Psychologists
Educational Objectives
- Understand the behavioral/psychological problems of obesity within a disease framework, encompassing medical and biological/genetic components
- Create an appropriate psychological/behavioral intake format applying the standard mental health assessment modified for this particular obese population
- Describe the behavioral approach to group treatment
- List the principles of behavioral group treatment

CD 3 Nutritional Counseling in Bariatric Surgery
Target Audience: Dietitians
Educational Objectives
- Identify some of the key activities which comprise the role of a registered dietitian in a bariatric surgery program
- Identify some potential benefits patients may derive from losing the suggested 5-10% of their initial weight prior to bariatric surgery
- Recognize some of the key elements of the pre and post-operative nutritional assessment
- Recall various components of mindful eating behavior
- Assess patient's adherence with recommendations for nutrient intake and supplementation
